Cindy Helmers
Cindy Helmers has served as Principal at Bloomington High School since 2003. Prior to being appointed Principal, Helmers served as the school's Associate Principal
from 1999 to 2003 and as an Assistant Principal from 1995 to 1999. Helmers
joined the staff at BHS in 1986 as a math teacher.
As Principal, Helmers is responsible for the total program of Bloomington High School, including activities that relate to teachers, pupils, educational programs, supplies and equipment.
Under her leadership, BHS' graduation requirements have increased and the number of math and science courses offered at the school have been expanded. Recently, the Board of Education voted to approve her recommendation to expand the school's Advanced Placement program to sixteen courses this fall.
Helmers has fostered the development of several community partnerships within the school and has implemented data driven decision making to meet school improvement goals.
In each year of her principalship, Helmers has overseen extensive renovations to the Bloomington High School campus. She has presented workshops on classroom assessment practices and data analysis training for teachers and administrators.
Helmers currently serves on several committees, including the ISBE High School Advisory Committee, the McLean County Urban League Advisory Committee and the International High School Committee.
Helmers earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Illinois State University. She has completed additional
course work towards her Docorate Degree.
