Associate Degree  vs.  Transfer Credit

Many students decide to attend a community college to get their general education classes taken, then transfer those credits to a four year school.  This is one option to a community college.

  • Transfer Credits to University

    • University may or may not accept all credits.

    • Classes may have to be repeated.

    • Repeating classes cost more money at University.

    • May not be at Junior standing when transferring credit.

    • No Degree obtained if student must leave school for any reason.

The other option, is to  continue at the community college to obtain an Associate Degree before transferring to the University. 

  • Associate Degree

  • A Degree is obtained.

  • Job market recognizes Associate Degree.

  • The Associate Degree gives a degree which is recognized at all Universities. 

  • Degree puts you at Junior standing at the University.

  • Less money at community college.

  • Two degrees, Associate Degree & Bachelors Degree

  • Degree obtained if student cannot continue to university.
