Part I Chapter 12
School Keys

School keys are very important. They protect the building and its property. Each fall, teachers will collect their keys from the main office, update their key inventory form, and return this form to the switchboard/receptionist. Before leaving at the end of the school year, teachers should return their keys to the main office and again update their inventory list. Teachers requesting to keep their keys over the summer need to submit a written note to their supervising administrator. After securing permission, this note should be submitted in lieu of keys.

It is imperative that teachers follow this plan with regard to keys:
  • Keys assigned to you are your responsibility. Please keep them on your person – in your pocket, or on a wristband. Please do not lay them down where someone else can retrieve them.
  • A duplicate set of keys are available for use by substitutes. Teachers who have student teachers may authorize the student teacher to pick up these keys on a daily basis, as long as the keys are returned to the main office by 2:30 p.m. daily. Please contact the switchboard/receptionist so she is aware of your authorization. Under no circumstances should a teacher give their keys to a student teacher overnight.
  • Under no circumstances are teachers to allow students to have school keys, other than the student’s own lab locker key, for any reason at any time. All keys must be turned in to the Main Office on the last day of school before summer vacation, unless permission has been granted by an administrator to keep them for the summer.
  • Unauthorized duplication of keys shall be cause for dismissal.
