Part II Chapter 9:
Student Detentions

  • Individual teachers must establish methods of detaining students after school to take care of minor disciplinary problems, makeup work, unapproved tardiness to class, etc.  At a teacher’s option, the teacher may hold lunch detentions.  Students must be allowed to eat lunch during this time.

  • Detention forms must be issued when a student is to be detained after school.  If a student has been assigned a detention period by another teacher, the method for determining which detention the student shall honor is as follows:

  • Detention for discipline and/or tardiness shall first be honored according to the order in which they were assigned

  • Detention assigned for makeup work shall take second priority to those assigned for discipline and tardiness to school or class

  • Any student who fails to attend a second assigned detention shall be referred to the Student Affairs Office.

  • Students who are participating in Cooperative Work Study programs shall serve detentions through arrangements with the teacher and/or the Student Affairs Office.
