Part III Chapter 10:
Illinois High School Association Athletic Eligibility By-Laws
The IHSA has established two academic
requirements for eligibility. The student must have passed four
credited classes the semester prior to any participation in a semester.
First semester ninth graders are deemed eligible. Summer sessions are
considered extensions of the spring semester for this rule. A second
requirement is that the student be currently passing the equivalent of
four credited classes in order to participate in games during the
season. Passing work means work of such a grade that if on any given
date the student should transfer to another school, work of a passing
grade would immediately be certified to the school to which the student
transferred. Bloomington High School requires athletes to pass at
least five classes in order to participate in extra-curricular
activities.
Teacher responsibility for reporting a
failing performance:
Each teacher will receive an
alphabetical list of student/athletes registered for current in-season
sports
If a student/athlete is failing a
course, teachers should report such failure by using the appropriate
form and placing it in the Athletic Director’s mailbox by 3:00 p.m. on
Thursday of each week.
Assume each student/athlete is
transferring each week and a cumulative grade must be determined at
the end of each week of a credit-generating course.
