Part III Chapter 17: |
|
Report cards are mailed four times each year to parents of students who are enrolled in Bloomington High School. To supplement this, progress reports are sent four times during the year in order to keep parents more informed of their student’s work. Progress reports are sent to any student who is in jeopardy of receiving a grade lower than a “C”. Progress reports are also sent if a student is in jeopardy of dropping from an “A” to “C” or lower. Teachers are strongly encouraged to issue progress reports in other cases to provide information to parents. The school will mail these for teachers according to the schedule printed in the calendar portion of this guidebook. Teacher or department-generated forms may be used to supplement this information. This supplemental information should be issued to the student with instructions to take the information home. The grade that should appear on the Progress Report is the letter grade earned to date (i.e. A, B, C, D, or F). If it should happen that a student owes you work with a deadline after the due date for the Progress Reports, you should submit the grade as “I/F” if the student would earn an “F” if the work is not completed on time, “I/D” if the student would earn a “D:” if the work is not completed on time, etc. Such grades should be relatively rare.
It is recommended that instructors make use of the Student Progress Reports during each quarter. It is particularly important that parents of seniors be kept advised if graduation is in jeopardy. Progress reports should not be utilized to report unsatisfactory work within a week of the end of the grading period if the student’s home is equipped with a telephone. A telephone call to the home should be made instead to notify parents immediately.
