Part III Chapter 3: |

Students who miss first semester final exams and who have an APPROVED ABSENCE are to make up the exam with the subject teacher. These students should contact their teacher as soon as they return to determine the date and time of the make up exam. Normally, make up exams must be completed within the first two weeks of the new semester. Students are to make arrangements promptly upon their return to school.
Students who miss second semester final exams and who have an APPROVED ABSENCE are to make up the exam with the subject matter teacher until the teacher dismissal time on the last day of school for teachers. If any such students with an approved absence have not reported to the teacher for a make up exam by that time, the teacher will take a copy of the exam and the key with the student’s name, to the Guidance Office before leaving that day. Full credit will be given for the make up exam. Students who miss final exams and who have an UNAPPROVED ABSENCE that was not pre-arranged will receive a grade of “F” for the course with forfeiture (FC) of credit. Students with UNAPPROVED ABSENCES are not normally given the privilege of making up the exam. The appropriate Assistant Principal can review such situations if special circumstances exist. In reviewing the circumstances, the Assistant Principal may allow the student to take the exam, but authorize a grade penalty on the exam, thereby allowing the student to pass the course if the overall semester average is passing.
Students who are classified as seniors and have nine or fewer absences in the course during the semester will be exempt from the semester examination provided the quarter grades are all “A’s” and “B’s”, or a “C” followed by an “A”.
*Any student who is eligible to be exempted from a final exam but wishes to take the exam, the student should be permitted to do so. In cases where the student has an A/B or a B/A split, the student could earn an A for the course by earning an A on the exam. Students thus exempted are excused from attending school during the time the exempted exam is being given.
The general policy is that no final examination will be given before the assigned date for the exam. In some emergency cases, it might be necessary to administer the exam earlier than scheduled. When this situation arises, the principal’s permission must be secured before a deviation from the exam schedule can be made.
