Part III Chapter 9:
Other Provisions

Grades, Grade Point Average, Class Rank:  See Course Description Guide regarding grade point average and class rank calculations.  Teachers are advised that GPA at BHS is for internal use only, and external awards, scholarship, and admissions programs may recalculate GPA to suit their needs.  The Student/Parent Handbook discusses awards based on academics, such as the Principal’s List, National Honor Society, Valedictorian honors, etc.

Academic Dishonesty:  During the school year, student learning will be measured by taking tests and quizzes, writing papers and completing projects.  The grade received for these efforts should inform students how much has been learned from the course.  Each year there are students who try to improve their grades by cheating.  Examples are listed in the Student/Parent Handbook .  Cheating is dishonest, degrades character and reputation and impedes individual learning.  Students found cheating will receive no credit on that material.  On semester examinations, the student will be required to retake the examination to demonstrate mastery.  On other assignments or tests, the student may be required to resubmit the assignment or test in accordance with mastery learning policy.  The time for the retake will be determined by the classroom teacher.  The failing grade for cheating remains the grade of record.  Successfully retaking the exam or resubmitting the material will allow the student to pass for the semester, if the student’s overall grade is passing.
