Part IV Chapter 2:
School Improvement Planning

  • Data collected about all parts of the educational system are used to plan for our school improvement.  BHS takes a comprehensive look at the indicators of student achievement as measured by various assessments against the standards and goals of the state and District 87.

  • Both internal and external review processes are implemented to provide ongoing information about the effectiveness of programs and practices which provided a basis for strategic and action planning.

  • Action plans developed by Departments, Learning Teams, Building Teams, and NCA Committees are specifically focused on improving student learning in relation to Illinois Learning Standards, District 87 Goals, and BHS Building Goals.

  • Professional development opportunities are targeted to support the implementation of standards and goals to engage the staff as a community of learners.

  • Professional development opportunities have evolved to encompass both individual and organizational growth and change with the primary focus on the learning needs of the students.

  • Job-embedded professional development opportunities form a bridge between staff development and the evaluation process.  New teachers are paired with a mentor to provide additional support in the context of a pilot induction program.  This program offers mentors and mentees additional assistance, both informational and instructional.

  • BHS has a strong commitment to collegial learning and continuous improvement for all learners in the system, students and adults.
