North Central Association Goals

BHS has two major goals adopted by the staff and approved by the Illinois NCA office:

  • Writing – All students will improve writing skills across the curriculum.

  • Math – All students will increase their skills in applying math in a variety of curricular contexts.

The NCA Steering, Math, and Writing Committees have created a Goal Map which outlines the assessments, interventions, and professional development for each of these goals.

 

Assessments:

 

Writing – Holistic Scored Writing samples 9th and 11th; ISAT 8 and PSAE 11th Writing; Freshman/Junior Portfolios

 

Math – Explore/PLAN/PSAE Math; Pre/Post Algebra and Geometry exams; MIC (Math in Context) local assessment

 

Interventions:

 

Writing – Writer’s Workshop; Rubric Work/Self-Assessment; Portfolio Development; Critical Thinking; CRISS

 

Math – Problem-solving strategies; Technology Integration; Math study skills; Tutoring Lab; Alternative Algorithms

 

Professional Development:

 

Writing – Write It!; Writer’s Workshop Techniques; Rubric Development; Assessment Strategies; Critical Thinking Skills; CRISS Training

 

Math – Questioning Strategies; Problem-Solving; Geometer Sketchpad and Fathom training; Alternative Strategies and Methods of Instruction
