Part VIII Chapter 2:
Tornado Procedures

Overview:  The state law requires all schools to have tornado drills.  Remain calm and follow directions as given.  Stay away from glass areas.  The tornado alarm is a continuous sound.  Exit the classroom and follow directions to the area designated for your class.  Have students sit or stand facing he wall and their hands covering their heads until the all clear is given.

  • Signal (Civil Defense Siren) – a three to five minute steady blast will indicate a tornado alert.  Everyone should take cover.

  • Proceed to move all personnel to the safety areas of the building.  The safety areas of the building include the ground floor of the gymnasiums (excluding the main floor areas and pool), the tunnel area, the library, and the ground floor of the north addition.
