Chestnut Health Systems and Project Oz

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a service provided by Chestnut Health Systems for many area schools. SAP workers come into the school to see students having difficulty with problems that could affect their academic performance including substance abuse issues. Friends, school staff, students’ parents, or students themselves typically refer students to SAP. SAP participation is completely voluntary on students’ part. SAP workers usually only meet with students for a limited amount of time, often only three or four times. Because of confidentiality, what is discussed with SAP workers is usually not reported to others, including school staff, unless there is a risk of harm to self or others. Students can ask to be referred through the Guidance Office.

Project Oz is another community-based program that works with students having a variety of at-risk issues. These include gang prevention and intervention programs. These services are provided both in and outside of school.

Any questions relating to these programs should be directed to the community provider agency.
