Any student accumulating four unapproved
absences per quarter in any course will receive an "F" for the
quarter in that class.
Any exception requires specific administrative approval.
Continued unapproved absences may result in removal from
the class and loss of credit.
This
policy applies to all students except in those special
situations covered by special education laws and other state
mandates. The
Student Affairs Office has the prerogative to determine status
of absences in special circumstances as applied to this policy,
for example:
-
Students who have run away from home.
-
Lack
of parent notification.
-
Personal emergencies not covered by other policies.
Procedures to be
followed in reference to unapproved absences are enumerated
below:
-
When a
student accumulates two unapproved absences
from a class, a form letter from the Office of Student
Affairs will be sent to the parent or guardian, recommending
the parent contact the counselor or Assistant Principal to
arrange a conference.
-
With
the occurrence of the fourth unapproved
absence, the appropriate Assistant Principal will have a
conference with the student and the teacher will be notified
of the automatic "F".
A letter will be sent to the parents indicating this
action.
-
A
student who fails a quarter due to unapproved absences may
lose credit and be withdrawn from the class if the pattern
continues during remainder of the semester course.
