Making wrapping paper

 

Objective:

To make usable wrapping paper using a basic stenciling technique.

 

Supplies:

Pencil, card stock, x-acto knife, scissors, sponge, and  paint.

 

Terms:

Shape-The external outline of a thing. An object that looks flat;2 dimensional.

 

Opaque-Impenetrable by light; neither transparent nor translucent.

Step #1

Sketch out several small ideas for stencils. Choose the ideas to use on the wrapping paper. 

 

Step #2

redraw the ideas on to a piece of card stock. Use a pair of scissors or an x-acto knife to cut out your designs.

 

      

 

Step #3

Use a small sponge to stencil the shapes onto the paper. Create some sort of pattern for your stenciled shapes. Use different colors to create some interest. 

 

When applying the paint, dab the sponge on a scrap piece of paper before dabbing it on the stencil. The excess paint on the sponge will tend to bleed under the stencil.

 

Don't drip or smudge paint on your paper. Keep the paper as neat and clean as possible.
