Normal Community High School moved up a spot in this week's high school football poll, making room for Bloomington to climb back into the rankings after a four-week absence.

NCHS (5-1) moved to No. 9 in Class 6A of the poll of state sportswriters conducted by The Associated Press. The Purple Raiders (5-1) are back in the poll at No. 10 after dropping out of the poll in Week 2 after a 17-14 overtime loss to the Ironmen.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw retained the No. 1 spot in Class 1A while Ridgeview moved up to No. 7. GCMS climbed two spots to No. 7 in Class 2A while Pontiac remained at No. 7 in Class 5A.

Two top-ranked teams were knocked from No. 1.

Sterling Newman fell from No. 1 in 2A when it lost to Bureau Valley, a 3A opponent, 26-14. And in 5A, Geneseo fell from the top spot with a 28-7 loss to Sterling. Moving up to No. 1 was Sacred Heart-Griffin for the first time since 1994. SHG currently has a 34-game regular season winning streak and a 26-game winning streak in the Central State Eight Conference, where it is on the verge of winning its sixth straight league title.

There are two polls remaining before the start of the playoffs.
