As all three Intercity schools represented the Big 12 Conference in the Illinois High School Association football state playoffs this past month, each school was represented well in the all-conference selections announced Monday, taking 18 of 28 first-team honors.

Normal Community senior lineman Billy Dickson was honored Monday as the offensive player of the year, while defensive back and teammate Alex Buck garnered defensive player of the year.

Joining Dickson as all-conference linemen were Normal West’s Drew Milliken and NCHS’ Derek Logue. Dickson and Milliken were unanimous selections. Bloomington’s Charlie Schmelzer was voted the league’s top tight end. West’s Matt Paska was a selection at wide receiver.

Darrelynn Dunn of BHS and West’s Darius Bell were named to the four-member running back team as juniors. Chad Hinshaw of NCHS was voted the league’s top place kicker.

On defense, NCHS teammates Jake Kretlow (lineman) and Buck were the only unanimous selections. Mark Osnowitz (NCHS), Terry Davis (BHS) and Aaron Kinnebrew (West) were each named to the first-team as linemen.

Austin Kull (NCHS), Austin Davis (NCHS) and Marcus Johnson (BHS) were selected to the linebacker corps, while Kennedy Freeman (NCHS) and Erich Bushong (West) joined Buck in the defensive backfield.

" In response to Normal resident...WOW, I've also been to most of the inner city games as well as the power house Catholic league games and you must need a new pair of glasses!! No way should the all conference team be all NCHS players. In fact, if you REALLY look at stats, some players on the all conference team should not be on 1st team and others that should have made the list at 1st, or 2nd team did not. Can we all say POLITICS!!!!! "

" Instead of bad mouthing players and teams why not celebrate the success of our local schools. BHS has had the most success over the last decade or so and NCHS has proven to be a power to be reckoned with as well as West establishing itself out of the shadow of Normal. CCHS has also turned out many outstanding seasons, like this year; and UH is on the move up! Quite whinning and let the athletes compete without the egos and criticism of the parents. "

" Ok. lets see..first off JCA isnt in the Catholic Blue league. Second, to the person that compared NCHS and West. NCHS beat West 38-0 and JCA beat West 49-7. So dont compare NCHS to West. To BIG 12 Fan ARE YOU SERIOUS!! First off if your gonna talk about how good a Catholic team is get thier conference right. JCA is the East Suburban Catholic League not the Catholic Blue. FACT! "

" If Metamora is so great then why dont they join the Big 12 instead of picking on weak teams like Washington. "

" NCHS 13 JCA 45. You got schooled just like BHS did when the played the catholic schools. I told all of you rude IRON fans all year they wouldnt beat JCA. I was right. "

" I believe second round of the IHSA playoffs is advancing. Get a clue and go hide under a corn stalk or something. "

" I figured you NCHS fans would have a little more class than this. This is a great way to represent you team and your community. You sound like little children. Rigo 0 Hid 1. Are you serious? Are you that childish? Lets take a sec to look back in time. BHS makes it to the Finals 3 years straight and they play the CCL Blue Powerhouse's each time. Yes the get destroyed everytime they play them because they are way better teams. NCHS plays the very weak Morris and Lost. You probably should have won that game. Then play an even weaker Batavia and win and you think you gods. So when you finally play the true CCL Blue powerhouse this year you were destroyed just as bad as BHS all 3 years. Grow up people. P.S. Look into Rigo vs Hud I believe Rigo has edged out Hud. Also look at the History of the 2 schools and you'll see that BHS has won more games against NCHS. Fact. "

" What team are you rooting for? Did your team advance in the playoffs? Did your team play a CCL powerhouse? I'm curious to know if any players from your team made this team? It's not arrogance if you're good. You'd say the same if your team had accomplished as much as NCHS has. Either way, congrats to ALL of our Big 12 Intercity athletes! "

" hands down, two best programs in central Illinois are NCHS and Metamora...their longevity over BHS and Pontiac has shown that coach Venerable and coach Ryan have established a culture of winning with great team efforts. West still has a ways to go to get to the next level but coach Hess is a terrific motivator and person. Congrats to all selected all Big 12 and when in doubt just remember... Venerable- 1 Schmelzer- 0 GO IRON! "

" Typical arrogant NCHS comment!!!! How quickly you forget that JCA kicked your rears all over the field two weeks ago, you didn't fare much better than West against JCA. "
