BHS Volleyball Team Rules

Attendance:

All volleyball players are expected to attend all practices. Any player unable to attend any practice should bring a note from a parent or guardian with an explanation why the athlete was not or will not be in attendance. Any athlete with conflicting extra-curricular activities (I.E. Band) must discuss scheduling conflicts with the head coach.

All players are expected to arrive at practice on time. This means players are dressed and ready for practice to begin. Players who arrive late will be expected to provide a note from a teacher, counselor or parent. Any player arriving late without a note or reasonable excuse must be prepared to face the consequences. Extenuating circumstances will be taken into account. For each minute late, the player may be assessed two minutes of conditioning, up to a maximum of ten minutes. The type of conditioning will be at the discretion of the coach. (I. E. circuit training involving diving, lateral passing, court movement, blocking, blocking and attacking.)

Leave early for practice and be on time! An unexcused absence from an entire practice will result in ineligibility for no less than one match! An unexplained unexcused absence will result in your dismissal from the volleyball team.

Grades and Attitude:

All players must maintain a D average in all classes to be eligible to play in games and matches. A player may practice if they maintain a D average in at least five classes. Any player failing in more than one class will be ineligible for participation in practice or matches until a passing grade is achieved. Players must have passed at least five classes the previous semester to be eligible for play in the present semester.

Uniforms:

Uniforms are provided by the school, the Booster Club and/or the team. Any player who loses her uniform or fails to turn in the uniform at the end of the season will be responsible for replacing it.

Sportsmanship:

All players will show good sportsmanship while practicing and playing in matches. They will adhere to the rules of the game accepting official's calls. They will accept changes and instruction from coaches. They will encourage their teammates at all times. All players will conduct themselves in a respectful, appropriate manner at all times. Failure to do so could result in dismissal from the team. The IHSA sportsmanship rule states that any athlete who is ejected from a match must be removed from competition for one match.

Code of Conduct:

All athletes at BHS are required to follow our school district's rules of behavior. No drinking alcoholic beverages, smoking, fighting, police arrests, etc. Players apprehended in any of the above activities are subject to a 90-day suspension from athletics.

Transportation:

Transportation is provided to all away games except for matches at NCHS and Normal West. Players are expected to use the bus transportation provided by District 87. Any exceptions to this rule must bring a note from a parent or guardian, signed by the principal and given to the coaches prior to departure. Varsity players will not, under any circumstances, drive themselves to away games (not including NCHS or West). Parents who will be driving children home from away matches or tournaments may only take their own child. Parents/Guardians are expected to provide players with transportation home from all practices and games. We will try to provide approximate times of arrival at BHS for away games. Allow 2-3 hours plus driving time as a rule of thumb. This does not include possible stops for dinner. Players will be allowed to call home after arriving at BHS.

Please remember that coaches cannot leave until all of the players have gone.

Parents/Fans:

Parents/Fans are expected to behave in an appropriate manner at games and matches. We know that this can be difficult at times but please conduct yourselves appropriately. Accept official's calls even though you may believe otherwise. Please refrain from shouting any instructions to your child or even worse, criticizing them. Either of these will only confuse and bewilder them. The most important thing you can do for our team and your child is cheer for them and encourage them. Remember you can inspire your child or embarrass them with your behavior.

Thank you for reading this through. We hope this answers some of your questions regarding participation in the volleyball program. We appreciate your time and involvement in interscholastic activities as parents, supporters and most especially fans. We are looking forward to a productive and challenging season.
