Health Occupations I  
Are you thinking of a career in health care?  Well this is the class for you!  The opportunities are unlimited for trained professionals in the health care field.  Upon successful completion of this course; students are eligible to take the State Certification for Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA). Classroom instruction will include fundamental health-care principles, basic patient care; such as Vital Signs (Blood pressure, pulse, respirations and temp.), height/weight, transferring residents, dressing and feeding residents, bathing, and basic aseptic procedures. Students will participate in clinical two days weekly from October to April at Westminster Village.  Attendance is essential due to the number of State Mandated hours. This class is recommended for students planning for post-secondary education or career attainment.      
This program pathway Health Occupations I is Articulated with Heartland Community College NURS 110 NURSING ASSISTANT (8 credit hours) is obtained after completion at BACC with a B and applying at Heartland Community College.
Health Occupations II
Prerequisite:  Successful completion of Health Occupations I with a B average or above, and successful attainment of CNA Certification.
Students who have successfully attained the CNA certification and have instructor approval may have the opportunity to enroll in Health Occupations II.  Students will benefit from speakers within the industry, enhance their technical skill development through internships, and develop workplace skills required in the health care profession.  Student internships include but are not limited to; Bromenn Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, and various Dr. Offices and Clinics.  Students within these internships are placed within but not limited to; the following departments: OB, Emergency, Pediatrics, and Physical Therapy. This class is recommended for students planning for post-secondary education or career attainment.

Learning a marketable technical skill and gaining work experience can help students acquire entry-level jobs after graduation or prepare for further training through community colleges, technical schools, four-year colleges and universities, and apprenticeships.  The following courses are planned at the Bloomington Area Career Center.  All ACC classes require at least two periods each day and are intended for Juniors and Seniors.  Full program descriptions and additional course offerings are available through the BACC catalog or the BACC website (www.bloomingtonacc.org). 

An application must be made to enroll in courses offered through the Bloomington  Area Career Center.  Criteria for acceptance: students must have Junior or Senior status (12 or more credits); good attendance (9 or fewer absences in the prior semester), meet the prerequisites for the class, and a GPA of 2.5 or better.  Students that have failed core curricular courses may not be accepted until the courses are made up.
