It is most fitting in the unique setting of the Edinburgh Castle, that a Scottish tribute helps celebrate the Queen's Jubilee.  Performers from a number of Commonwealth countries participated in this year's program. Three hundred pipes and drums, military bands, and Highland dancers come from countries that include Canada, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Tonga, and India.  In addition, the U.S. Marines Albany Band and the Trompetterkorps (remember the group on the bicycles?) from Holland participated.  It was the first appearance of the Royal Corps of Musicians from Tonga and the President's Bodyguard and cultural group from India.

The members of the Tattoo were greatly honored by a visit from Her Majesty the Queen on August 5th, when the largest cast ever to perform on the esplanade paid tribute.

Official portrait of the QueenFor the generation who first experienced television with the black-and-white broadcast of the Coronation on June 2, 1953, it seems almost impossible to accept that fifty years have flown past since Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and of Northern Ireland and of her other territories, Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, succeeded her father as monarch.

Joana Heslop sang Pokarekare ana and led the audience in the National Anthem, Auld Lang Syne, and the Evening Hymn - Abide with Me

The Grand finale featured the complete 1,200 member cast with a Guard of Honour provided by the 1st Battalion the Highlanders in a tribute to Her Majesty the Queen.
