Math takes practice.  For years teachers have used paper & pencil worksheets to provide supervised practice of basic skills.  However, while drill & practice is necessary, it can quickly become 'drill & kill'.  Furthermore, if the student does not receive adequate feedback, the student may end up learning to do a problem incorrectly, which means they have to 'unlearn' what they practiced.

The computer can help.  The purpose of this page is to provide links to computer applets that can be substituted for worksheets.  The advantage is that the computer can provide instant feedback, and possibly be a bit more fun.

As of the summer of 2001, the number of available applets has increased to three with the addition of an applet for practicing factoring.  Both the F.O.I.L. and factoring applets were made possible by District 87 Summer Curriculum grants.  I hope that more will follow.
