General Assignment Policies
English:
Students will do
much of their homework during class time. If they aren’t able
to complete the work in the time given, they are expected to
take the work home and return it the next day at the beginning
of class. We will be writing 2-3 expository, narrative, and
persuasive drafts during quarters 1-3. For the most part, the
writing will be completed in class. At the end of each quarter,
the students will pick one of the 2-3 drafts and turn it into a
final draft. The final draft work will be done at home. Work
is due on the due date.
History:
Students will not have daily homework in history class. Grades have
been weighted in such a way that students who participate well in
class and score well on tests will earn enough points to pass.
Students who want to earn a grade better than a “D” will need to
complete work outside of class beyond test preparation. The
homework is not given on a daily schedule; rather it is assigned
with a period from a few days to a few months to complete. There
are five ‘assignments’ per quarter that are each worth five percent
of the quarterly grade: STTA (mostly in class time—1 -1/2 hours),
Recital (1 hour), Field Report (2 – 3 hours), Scene Seen (3 – 4
hours), and Reaction (1 hour). In addition there will be two to
four ‘homework’ assignments per quarter that are worth a combined
eight percent of the grade. Work that is incomplete will receive a
‘transition score’ of one point until the work is finished. Late
work will earn up to sixty percent credit when it is finished.
Documentation for assignments, along with step by step audio
descriptions, is linked from the class website at
http://www.district87.org/staff/wetzelw/.
Math:
Daily assignments are given. Homework is graded and checked for
completion daily, but is not collected daily. Students are
responsible for making daily corrections on their assignments.
Corrected homework is self assessed and will be turned in as a
packet on the day of the unit test. Full credit for a packet is
given if the assignments in the packet are corrected, complete, and
done on time. Late packets earn a maximum of 65% .
Science:
In science students are given a
workbook that goes along with the
textbook. Sections are checked periodically for on time completion
and collected as a whole chapter for a grade. Credit will be
deducted for non-completion and non-timely completion. Grade is
based on total points (i.e. 875/1000 = 87.5%) and other assessments
are tests, quizzes, assignments, video notes, labs, etc. Late work
is reduce by 50% of the points earned not the value of the
assignment. Extremely late work is reduced by as much as 90%.
