WELCOME
Welcome to Bloomington Junior High School. We hope that everything has been done to make this contest as enjoyable an experience as possible. If you should have problem or concern, please contact the contest office for help.
LOCATION AND PARKING
Bloomington Junior High School is located at 901 N. Colton Ave. in Bloomington, Illinois. From the southeast, take I-74 to Exit 142 at Downs, IL. At the stop sign, turn right and pass through the small town of Downs. This road will stop at a T with IL Route 150. Turn left at the stop sign at the bottom of the hill. Follow IL. Route 150 to the first stop light (Towanda-Barnes Rd.) Turn right at this stop light. Continue on the Towanda-Barnes Rd. to the second set of stoplights (IL Route 9). Turn left at this intersection. Continue on IL Route 9 to Colton Ave. (Several miles.) Bloomington Junior High School will be on your left. Turn left on Colton Ave. Buses may unload in the south parking lot.
PARKING
Buses only should park south lot of BJHS. All others can park in the BJHS west lot or the BHS southwest lot.
REGISTRATION
Upon arrival, all contestants, teachers and parents may enter through either the south main doors or the west main doors. Directors should report to the contest office to pick up any last minute information and to report changes and cancellations. The contest office is located in the IMC at the top of the first ramp. There is a school map enclosed. There will be people available to help with directions to the contest office and the gym.
HOMEROOM
The gym will serve as the homeroom. Food and drinks will not be allowed in the homeroom. Please have a chaperone with your group/materials at all times. There will be NO warming-up of any kind allowed in the homeroom. Warm-up rooms have been provided for that purpose.
LOST AND FOUND
Any articles found should be brought to the contest office. Owners can secure articles by identification. Neither Bloomington Junior High School nor the Illinois Grade School Association will assume responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged articles.
FOOD
Concessions will be available from 7:30a.m. to 2:00p.m. for your breakfast, lunch and snacking pleasure.
FIRST AID
First Aid supplies will be available in the contest office.
CONTESTANTS
All contestants please remember two important points. First, you must supply the judge with an original copy of the selection that you are performing, with the measures numbered and all cuts plainly marked. Secondly, please report to your contest room at least two events ahead of your scheduled appearance time. In case of conflicts, you may be asked, but will not be required to perform ahead of your scheduled time. Soloists will be announced by the room monitors. Be sure to pick up your judges copies after the performance.
EQUIPMENT
Music Stands and pianos will be supplied in all contest rooms where needed. Timpani (29,29,26,23), Bass Drum, Bells, Xylophone and Crash Cymbals will be provided in the percussion room. Contestants will be expected to bring any other equipment needed unless arrangements are made in advance with Mr. Wallace.
INFORMATION AND PROGRAMS
There will be an information table and programs for sale at the south entrance on the side of BJHS.
INSTRUMENT REPAIR
The Music Shoppe will provide emergency repair and have a few supplies available in the cafetorium.
CONFLICTS
Hopefully, there will be few conflicts. However, conflicts during an event this large are a fact of life. Please notify the room monitor or judge as to the nature of your conflict. We will try to be as flexible as possible.
RESULTS
Results will be posted on bulletin boards in the Cafeteria Adjudication sheets and medals will be available in the contest office as soon as possible after completion of the last event. We will use different envelopes for Band, Vocal and String events. Only teachers may pick up final results. The contest workroom is off limits to everyone except members of the contest office.
STUDENT BEHAVIOR
Help our students to remain quiet in the contest rooms and to display correct hallway behavior at all times Please make sure your students stay inside the building at all times unless with you or a parent. Students who are found acting inappropriately, are outside the school building, or are in construction areas will be placed in the direct supervision of their teachers and/or asked to leave the contest.
MEDALS/SCHOOL SPECIFIC ATTIRE
Contestants will not appear for adjudication wearing medals and/or awards of any kind or attire that identifies what school they attend.
DIRECTOR & JUDGE HOSPITALITY ROOM
Directors & Judges will find coffee and donuts in room 102 until about 1:00p.m.
