What
is the "New" P.E.?The Healthy Schools Program reflects elements of the New P.E. Movement, called My PE in Bloomington-Normal. New PE programs in District 87 focus on: *Health and disease prevention rather than sports skills *Accelerating students' heart rate to strengthen their heart rather than points scored *Keeping moving rather than waiting your turn *Using heart rate monitors and other equipment to measure heart rate, body fat, blood pressure, strength, flexibility and fitness, rather than using the Presidential Fitness Test *Tracking students' scores over time so they are evaluated against themselves rather than their classmates *Addressing identified health risks *Students improving their health and fitness rather than beating the other team *Teaching healthy lifestyles and a variety of activities - from playing sports and games, to riding an exercise bike, to dancing - which burn calories, accelerate heart rate, and may be continued through adulthood.
The BJHS Physical Education department is proud to be at the forefront of the
New PE initiative. For more information, visit these links: BJHS Home Page |
