Physical Education

Physical Education is a required daily course for all students at Bloomington Junior High School.  Each class period meets for 42 minutes.

Students are required to dress in “Bloomington Phys. Ed.” or plain purple gym shorts, “Bloomington Phys. Ed.” or plain white t-shirt, tennis shoes, and socks (students can still wear the old ash gray t-shirts and purple gym shorts that were purchased from the PTO in the past).  Shorts and shirts with “Bloomington Phys. Ed.” on them can be purchased through the BJHS PTO.  Plain purple shorts and white t-shirts can also be purchased at local clothing and sporting goods stores.

Units in physical education cover knowledge and skills in team and individual sports, personal physical fitness, muscles and their performance, and leisure activities.  All students are encouraged to participate in all activities, showing effort and improvement in knowledge and skills.  Any student needing to be excused up to three days for illness must bring a note from their parent/guardian.  Any illness or injury for longer than three days requires a note from a doctor.

Health

Health education is one of the arts for life rotations at the seventh grade level.  The required course is nine weeks in duration.  During the nine-week session, each student is exposed to aspects that will further his/her physical mental, and social health.  In addition to our in house curriculum, outside resources are brought in including the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program as well as a two-day program presented by the McLean County Health Department about the topic of HIV/AIDS & Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s).
