This book is actually a notebook written by Maddie Chase. She and her parents live on a farm in Washington. Maddie's aunt, Sid, invites her on her trip to Ireland, along with Sid's nephew, Ryan. Sid is traveling to Ireland to interview people who had participated in the peace camp during the war between Britain and the Irish Republican Army (IRA). When they arrive at Ireland Maddie, Ryan, and Sid still find signs of a continuing war. They discover terrible secrets about family members and people who they had known to be dead. But while all of this is happening Maddie seems to be more and more interested in Ryan's Irish heritage.
