This BJHS science class for gifted
students combines our biology & technology curriculum. Students are
challenged to use technology to create science resources for other
teachers, students and the community. The class is taught by Mr.
Michael Jones, 7th grade science
teacher, and Mrs. Linn McDonald, the BJHS media specialist.

Zoo Animals
After a trip to our local
Miller Park Zoo, students "adopted" an animal and created a podcast,
web page, or comic book of facts about the animal
to share with young children visiting the zoo. Students worked alone
or in pairs, researching their animals and choosing the
most appropriate method to convey their information.

Animal Dissection
Videos
Students worked in small groups to
create a video of step-by-step directions for an animal dissection.
Each group uses handout and rubrics for guidance.
Windows Movie Maker was used to edit the raw video.

Environmental PSAs
using Microsoft PhotoStory
Students chose
a controversial environmental topic and wrote a persuasive essay in
English, using facts gleaned from research which argued for or
against the issue. Using their essay as a guide, they created a
public service announcement about the topic using Microsoft Photo
Story and narrated the video.

Science Wikis
Using
Wikipedia codes as a guide, students created their own wiki about a
Science topic. Requirements for the wiki include a table of contents
and images. Students also edited and contributed at least two other
student wikis in the class.
