BHS senior named National Merit Finalist

Bloomington High School senior, Kristina Warren is among 15,000 high school seniors across the nation to be chosen as a National Merit Finalist. Less than 1% of the 1.4 million students taking the PSAT earn this honor. Kristina was chosen based on her high academic performance as well as the results of her PSAT and SAT scores. Last fall, Kristina scored a perfect "2400" on the SAT.

Two projects from Stevenson School qualify for TECH 2007

Two Stevenson School produced classroom videos – "The Penquins of March" and "I Believe" were both chosen to presented at the TECH 2007 Conference in Springfield on May 8th. At Stevenson Melanie Stanley, Jeanine Buob and Trish Weaver all prepared the penquin project and will be presenting at Springfield. Sandy Lewis, Chris Bohne, Melinda Smith and Sarah Frailey prepared the “I Wonder” project and Sarah will be presenting as their representative. TECH 2007 began sixteen years ago when public policymakers from around the state banded together to promote the most comprehensive and diverse demonstration of classroom technology in the Midwest by those who use these technologies on a daily basis – students and teachers. Among all schools located in McLean County, these two videos are the only projects chosen to be presented at the conference.

Sheridan students collect care packages for troops

The Student Council (Shark Council) at Sheridan School sponsored a collection for care package items to be send to the troops in Iraq. They had a great response and are sending 10 care packages filled with food, games, and personal hygiene items to the troops.

BHS' WYSE team cleans up at Regional Academic Challenge

BHS' WYSE team won the unlimited division of the Regional Academic Challenge on February 2nd with the following BHS students earning individual medals: *Troy Earley 1st in Physics; *Troy Earley 1st in Computer Programming; Michael Lieder 3rd in Computer Programming; *Kristina Warren 1st in English; Hamsika Santanam 2nd in English; *Michael Parker 1st in Engineering Graphics; *Hunter Fast 1st in Chemistry; Kristina Warren 2nd in Chemistry; Jayanth Madheswaran 3rd in Chemistry; Jeff Lawson 3rd in Chemistry; Madhuri Nishtla 2nd in Biology; Jayanth Madheswaran 3rd in Biology.

Troy Earley (Physics and Computers), Kristina Warren (English), Michael Parker (Engineering Graphics) and Hunter Fast (Chemistry) scored highest in their respective test areas out of all 4 divisions and the 11 competing teams – earning BHS the distinction of top scores in 5 of the 7 test areas!

BHS' Literary Magazine receives Excellence award

Bloomington High School's student literary magazine, titled Aubade, recently received an award of "Excellence" from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). The award is judged on the following: extremely high quality of writing; variety of genres; meticulous editing; some writings from other subject areas; design and graphics are attractive and pertinent to writings; and students have strong roles in editorial, production, and business aspects. In addition to the national award, the designers of the Aubade won 2nd place in the ChicTech Technical Ambassador's Competition, sponsored by U of I. This organization encourages girls to choose careers in technical fields. Last year's designers included Lisa Shickel, Jean Lust, Staci Suhadolc, and Sierra Nichols. Visit Aubade website.

BHS students heading to State

The Bloomington High School Speech Team has qualified for two events at the State Tournament in Rock Island this weekend. Dramatic Duet Acting (Ryan Marquardt and Marisa Drat) and Dramatic Interpretation (Ryan Marquardt). Additionally, BHS Wrestlers Tom Cole and Jacob Lehr will be competing at the State Finals at Northern Illinois University this weekend.

Please note: due to the need to utilize three Emergency Days this year – the last day of school – if no additional Emergency Days are used – is now Wednesday, June 6th.

Four Seasons to begin offering group classes
