BHS names Valedictorians and Salutatorian
Valedictorians for the BHS Class of 2005 include: Adam Kim (Northwestern Univ.), Kent Franklin (Illinois State Univ.), Megan Connor (University of St. Andrew/Scotland or The American Univ. of Paris) and Laura Colee (Northwestern Univ.) Our Salutatorian is Josh Blair (Yale University). All five attended BJHS through BHS and all but one attended a District 87 elementary school.

BHS senior named to Chicago Tribune Annual All-State Academic Team
Adam Kim, a senior at Bloomington High School, has been named one of seventy finalists who competed for the Chicago Tribune's annual 10-member All-State Academic Team. Kim, a class Valedictorian and a member of the school's orchestra, will attend Northwestern University this fall to double major in engineering and bassoon. The All-State team was announced in the May 1st edition of the Chicago Tribune.

BOE elects Dirks President, Herrera VP
The Disitrict 87 Board of Education held a Special Meeting on Tuesday, April 19 to canvas the results of the April 5 election. During the meeting, John Dirks was elected President of the Board and Uvaldo Herrera was elected Vice President. Their one-year terms begin immediately. BHS grad receives National Science Foundation Scholarship
Matt Kiesewetter, a 2001 graduate of Bloomington High School, recently received a $121,500 grant from the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship program and will begin his doctoral progam at Stanford University in September. He graduated from Illinois State University Summa Cum Laude with college and departmental honors in December 2004, and is currently taking graduate classes and conducting research. Kiesewetter was a Valedictorian and an Advanced Placement Scholar with Honors at BHS and participated in Scholastic Bowl, Science Olympiads, WYSE, Chemistry Magic Show and the Principal's Student Advisory Board.

District 87 will see the loss of 26 employees this Spring due to Retirement. All but two are teachers.

They include:

Suzanne Adam, 2nd grade teacher at Stevenson School. 35 years in teaching - all with District 87.
Chris Albritton, 1st/2nd grade teacher at Irving School. Also taught at Lincoln, Sheridan and Stevenson Schools. 30 years in teaching - all with District 87.
Patsy Bowles, Speech Pathologist at Sheridan School. Also taught at Sarah E. Raymond. 24 years in teaching - 21 with District 87.
Peggy Brown, 2nd grade teacher at Bent School. Also taught at Emerson, Centennial, Sheridan, Oakland and Lincoln Schools as a Special Reading Teacher. 33 years in teaching - all with District 87.
Karl Byers, Math teacher at BHS. Also taught at BJHS. 38 years in teaching - all with District 87.
Peggy Cope, 1st grade teacher at Stevenson School. 25 years in teaching - 20 with District 87.
Irene DenBesten, Special Ed. LD teacher at Stevenson School. Also taught 6th grade at Emerson and Sheridan Schools, was a Diagnostic Teacher for Title I, a Research Project Teacher based at Irving School and Title I Coordinator for Bent, Irving and Sheridan Schools. 33 years in teaching - all with District 87.
Linda Draper, Counselor at BHS. 33 years in teaching - 12 with District 87.
Ruth Eickenberg, 2nd grade teacher at Stevenson School. 24 years in teaching - 21 with District 87.
Gene Garrett, Industrial Technology teacher at AVC/BHS. 28 years in teaching - 28 with District 87.
Ann Gore, Band teacher at BHS. Also taught at Irving, Bent, Stevenson, Oakland, Washington, Sheridan, Centennial and Lincoln Schools. 33 years in teaching - 25 with District 87.
Carole Kalmes, Special Education teacher at Irving School. Also taught at Jefferson and Bent Schools. 33 years in teaching - 29 with District 87.
Richard Knowles, Assistant Principal at BJHS. 32 years in education - 4 with District 87.
Don Kutemeier, Plumber. 25 years with District 87. (Last day was April 15)
Sandra Leffler, 3rd grade teacher at Oakland School. Also taught at Washington and Bent Schools. 35 years in teaching - 32 with District 87.
Paula Leifel, Title I teacher at Irving School. 20 years in teaching - 12 with District 87.
Linda Lienhart, English teacher at BHS. 32 years in teaching - 30 with District 87.
Pam Lubeck, 4th grade teacher at Irving School. 34 years in teaching - 27 with District 87.
Sue Miller, Vocal Music teacher at Irving School. Also taught at Jefferson, Raymond, Lincoln, BJHS, Sheridan and Stevenson Schools. 20 years in teaching - 17 with District 87.
Dr. Jo Morrison, P.E. teacher at Sheridan School. Also taught at Stevenson, BHS, Oakland, Irving, Bent, Centennial and Jefferson. 33 years in teaching - all with District 87.
Sareva Parkhurst, 5th grade teacher at Bent School. Also taught at Jefferson School. 37 years in teaching - all with District 87.
Diane Scherr, 2nd grade teacher at Washington School. Also taught at Emerson and Oakland Schools. 34 years in teaching - all with District 87.
