Six more teachers achieve National Board Certification!
Congratulations to BJHS teachers, Doug Fillmore (Gr.6), Bill Wetzel (Gr. 8) and Matt Willey (P.E.), Stevenson teacher, Amanda White (Grade 4) and BHS teachers Mike Gebhard (Science) and Nancy Powell (Math) for recently achieving National Board Certification! National Board Certification® measures a teacher's practice against high and rigorous standards. The year-long process is an extensive series of performance-based assessments that includes teaching portfolios, student work samples, videotapes and thorough analysis of the candidates' classroom teaching and student learning. Teachers also complete a series of written exercises that probe the depth of their subject-matter knowledge, as well as their understanding of how to teach those subjects to their students. District 87 employs 15 National Board Certified teachers - the most of any district outside of Chicago and its suburbs.
