Positive Behavior Intervention Systems: What
is it?
PBIS is a school-wide behavior program that was designed by eight
universities and four educational agencies.
It’s purpose is to reduce problem behavior and encourage positive
behavior though a set of strategies taught to all students. Irving is
beginning its second year using this program.
What is the Purpose of PBIS?
The purpose of the Irving Elementary School-Wide Positive Behavior and
Supports program is to establish and maintain a safe, effective school
environment that maximizes and academic achievement and behavioral
competence of all students.
What Are Our Goals for 2011-2012?
Our goal is to continue and refine what we began last year, adding the
necessary Parent Component needed to see even more positive results.
This means
YOU!
Throughout the school year, expect to see more information, helpful
tips, and strategies for helping your child be successful at school.
You can begin by talking with your child about the Mustang Expectations
and the Expectation Stations.
What Programs Are In Place at Irving?
Mustang Money
Students earn “Mustang Money” for making good choices and following
school expectations. Each
“dollar” earned is entered into a drawing for prizes each week.
Zero “0” Marks Recognition
Students earn “marks” on a behavior chart for not following
expectations. If your child
earns marks, please consider it a learning experience and talk with your
child about making better choices.
Each week, students earning “0 marks”
receive special recognition.
Students are recognized on Monday for the previous week.
“Out of the Blue”
Sometimes we celebrate “Out of the Blue” moments.
This means something extra special will be rewarded to those
students who have shown above-and-beyond good character!
