Owen T. Reeves was one of the original members of the Board of Education, serving from April 8, 1857 until April 11, 1863. Two days following the 1857 election, Reeves was appointed as both Treasurer and Superintendent of Schools – both unpaid positions. He briefly served as Superintendent until October of that same year, when Daniel Wilkens was appointed.
