In May, of 1901, John K. Stableton (always referred to as "Professor" Stableton), was elected the new Superintendent of Schools. Stableton was 42-years old and formerly served as the Superintendent of the Charleston, Illinois Schools. A graduate of the Ohio Wesleyan University, he had taught in schools in Ohio and Nebraska. Stableton would lead the Bloomington Schools for nineteen years and on his retirement would receive a heart felt tribute. For almost twenty years, he would lead the schools through curriculum changes and new buildings (including a new high school).
