The 1909-1910 season saw the first matchup between Bloomington H.S. and Normal Community H.S. The following game summary appeared in the February 1910 issue of the BHS student newspaper, the AEGIS:

Bloomington High 24; Normal High 19

For the first time in the history of the two High Schools, the Bloomington team lined up against Normal in basket ball. It was a hard, rough game, full of many disagreeable features. Sutherland, of BHS, received a very ugly injury to his eye. The game did not amount to a great deal so far as the sport goes, but Normal was defeated by a score of 24 to 19, thus establishing a precedent for the future history of the game between the two rivals.

Later that season, Bloomington High won the District Tournament with wins over Champaign (22-20), Clinton (52-3), Decatur (26-17) and Peoria (27-19).

At the State Tournament, BHS advanced to the championship game, where they beat Rock Island High School by the score of 32-25. They ended the season with a record of 14-2.
