Centennial School was built in 1957 to help offset the needs of residents in the rapidly growing east-side part of Bloomington. The school was named in honor of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the district. In 1989, this school closed and was partially torn down in order to accommodate a new district-wide junior high school. The tall, rounded part of Centennial School and its entrance were incorporated into the current Bloomington Junior High School's design.
