Eva Jones, a secretary at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. became the first African-American elected to serve on the Bloomington Board of Education. She served two terms. Jones, a graduate of BHS, was also a graduate of the Cortez-Peters Business College in Chicago. Jones was later elected to serve on the Bloomington City Council.
