Reading intervention is a program developed to help students who are
struggling with their current reading curriculum.
Reading intervention does not replace the reading instruction a
student receives in his/her classroom. Rather, students are pulled
for 20-30 minutes a day, in a small group setting, to work on a specific skill. The
goal of Reading Intervention is to build confident readers that
become successful students in
the general education classroom.
|
Students are chosen for intervention based on
the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Literacy
Skills)screening tool. DIBELS measures the following early
reading skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary and fluency.
This tool is administered three times per year to all students in
kindergarten through fifth grade.
