Illinois Wesley University and Bloomington Junior High School
Promise and Potential Program
Some Bloomington Junior High School Teams offer a student support program, COACHES, through a partnership with Illinois Wesleyan University.
Under the supervision of BJ faculty, Illinois Wesleyan students participating in the "Promise and Potential" Program support BJ students as academic “coaches.” They provide extra help in subjects in which a student is struggling as well as assistance with assignments, organizational and study skills. Pairs of BJ students meet with their coaches twice each week. This program, with its emphasis on individual attention for students, is designed to help students set and reach academic goals. BJ teachers and IWU coaches communicate regularly about each BJ student’s needs and progress.
Those interested in learning more about the program are invited to contact BJ site coordinator, Mary Aplington., 827-0086. Program forms for use by parents and guardians may be accessed here.
Additional program information is available on the IWU website, where an in-depth article describes the experiences of past participants.
