ABOUT HONORS BIOLOGY

 

Purpose

 

This course is designed to challenge first year Biology students who have a strong background and interest in science.  The curriculum will be very inclusive and move at an accelerated pace.  Students will be expected to read and take notes outside of class.  Class time will be reserved for discussion of the most difficult topics, for lab work, films, videos, etc. that supplement the written material.

Scientific method, Microscope usage, Ecology, Biochemistry, Cell biology, Genetics, Classification, Evolution, Microbiology, Botany, and Zoology

Course Organization

 

Each learning unit will consist of a vocabulary assignment, lecture notes, at least 2 homework assignments, at least one laboratory activity and a test.  Students are strongly urged to read the appropriate sections in the text that will be included along with lecture notes, homework assignments, and labs on the test for each unit.

 

Bloomington High School Science Requirement

 

Honors Biology fulfills 1 of the BHS 3 year science requirement plus 1 of the college entrance requirements for 3 years of laboratory science.
