Purpose:
To test plant growth responses
Materials:
nylon stocking (sandal toe) sawdust can (open at one end) or a 400 mL beaker grass seed markers/paint/glitter glue rubber band scissors 50 mL beaker large container can (open at both ends)
Procedures:
1. Gather the stocking, leaving 2-3 inches loose at the toe.
2. Insert the end of the can over the stocking to act as a funnel.
3. Fill the 50 mL beaker with grass seed and pour it into the stocking.
4. Fill the can (open at one end) or the 400 mL beaker with sawdust and pour it into the stocking on top of the grass seed. Do this a total of two times, so the stocking fills out.
5. As you add the sawdust, tamp it down firmly using the can (open at one end) into the stocking to form a ball. You may also have to shape it with your hands. It is very important that everything is tightly packed within your grasshead.
6. Remove the can, draw up the excess stocking, and tie a knot close to the sawdust. Snip off the excess material using scissors.
7. You may need to rearrange the grass seed so it is spread out evenly on the "head" area.
8. Complete your grass head's face using markers/paint/glitter glue. You may want to create a nose or two ears by pulling out some sawdust and securing it with a rubber band.
9. After the markers/paint/glitter glue have dried, place your grass head in the correct tray for the environment assigned to your group.
10. Add water periodically to maintain moisture content of your grass head. |
