Make an oversized pamphlet on a disease caused by a virus or bacteria.  You are to write the material so that a high school freshman would understand it.  You may include graphics if they will help the readers understand the material or capture the readers’ attention.  Information must be put you’re your own words – do not plagiarize.  Your pamphlet is must cover the following points: 

A.                 Name the disease

B.                 Name the pathogenic causative agent

C.                 Explain the mode of transmission from host to host

        1.         Name any vectors of this disease, if applicable

D.                Explain how the pathogen interacts with the body to produce the symptoms of the disease by listing the cells, tissues, and/or organs affected and the type of damage done to those cells, tissues, and/or organs

E.                 Explain who is at risk of contracting this disease

        1.         Does it occur more in certain geographic areas?

        2.         Does it occur more in certain ethnic groups?

        3.         What human actions are related to the spread of this disease?

        4.         Has it erupted in periodic epidemic outbreaks, if so, where and when?

F.                  Explain any prevention methods to avoid contracting this disease

G.                Explain all treatments available for this disease

        1.         If a vaccine, medicine, or gene therapy is available, discuss the effectiveness of this treatment

        2.         What problems currently exist with treatment strategies?

        3.         Can this disease be detected before symptoms appear?  How?

        4.         Can this disease be detected prenatally?  How?
