About Mrs. Barke
Growing up in St.Charles, IL I loved playing soccer and camping with my family. I attended Illinois State University for my degree in Elementary Education. After graduation I taught first grade for two years in Bellwood, IL before moving back down to Bloomington-Normal in the summer of 2006. This is my fourth year at Irving Elementary School! Before teaching first grade I was able to work in the Title One Reading Program for two years. I recently received my Master's Degree in Reading from Illinois State University in May of this year!
I still enjoy playing many sports including soccer and volleyball. Additionally, I love to cook (not bake!). Mr. Barke and I have been married for five years. Whether it is traveling to visit family in Wisconsin or roaming to visit friends in nearby states or far away countries we love to explore new places.
My teaching philosophy
I believe that it is important to create an environment where every student is able to experience success everyday. I also think that it is equally important to create lessons for students where they are engaged and motivated to learn. I will do my best everyday to make sure that every child's needs are met and each student reaches their fullest potential.
