P.E. Rules and Expectations

 

Ø      Rules (Ready, Respectful, Responsible, Safe)

·        Follow Directions (ALWAYS) – this should never be a problem

·        Keep Hands and Feet to Yourself – there is never a time where it is ok for you to touch another student (High 5’s/Handshakes)

·        Be Kind to others at all time – treat other people how you would want to be treated (there is never a reason to make fun of another student – EVER)

·        Stop on the Whistle – this correlates with following directions (we don’t have a lot of time so we can’t waste the time we do have)

·        Use any and all equipment properly ($$ to repair/replace is great)

·        Be Prepared for P.E. everyday

§         Proper Shoes – Tennis shoes/athletic shoes only (Velcro or shoes with laces)

§         Shoes must be completely laced and tied (have this done before class starts)

§         No sandals, crocks, dress shoes, high heels, boots, slippers, flip flops, heelies etc.

§         If you are dressing up for school bring an extra pair of socks and shoes to put in your locker (good idea to always have these in case you forget)

§         You will not be allowed to participate until you meet the above criteria

·        These are the rules for Sheridan students in P.E.

§          When you are in the gym you will follow these rules and instructions

§          Your cooperation is greatly appreciated\

·        Warning (verbal or non-verbal)

·        Sitting out

§        Bleachers

§        Hallway

§        Writing Sentences

·        ODR (office discipline referral)

 

Ø      Rewards

Ø      Other

·        Entering the gym

§        Walk quietly to your spot

§        Sit criss cross applesauce with your hands in your lap (self-control position)

§        Don’t come up to the teacher – if you have a question you can raise your hand

·        Lineup and Exit

§        Line up when your squad or name is called

§        Walk to the line

§         Boy/Girl line – face the door, sit criss cross applesauce (give the person in front of you room) - (this is not a race)

·        Things to remember

§        ABSOLUTELY no Jewelry in P.E.  (it can cause injury, it may get broke, you may lose it)

§         No Gum (students at Sheridan are not allowed to chew gum)

§         No Candy of any kind (you can choke and it will make a mess in the gym)  (if another teacher gives you candy it needs to stay in your pocket or be put on the stage until after class when you can pick it up)

§        Parental notes are good for 2 consecutive days - then a medical note from a doctor will be needed.

 

Ø      Warm-ups

1.      10 Jumping Jacks

2.      10 Count Toe Touches (stretch the hamstring)

3.      1 Leg Quad Stretch – Right and Left (count in Spanish 1-5 then 6-10) (stretch the Quadriceps)

4.      5-10 Push-ups (upper body strength)

5.      5-10 Sit-ups (abdominal strength)

6.      Pacer (cardiovascular endurance)

 

Reminders

If you don’t do warm-ups properly you may be more apt to hurt/ injure yourself during class.  You will also receive a mark and may not be allowed to participate in the day’s activities.

 

You will like some activities and dislike others.  Make the best of each situation.
