"I'm
going to work so that it's a pure guts race at the end, and if it is, I
am the only one who can win it."

It is with mixed feelings that I announce that
I have resigned my coaching positions in District 87. I have just
finished my second bachelor’s degree and I have accepted a teaching
position in a district closer to home. In addition, I have also accepted
a position with the Illinois Wesleyan University Track and Field staff
as a throws coach.
Over the last seven years, I have had the
pleasure of working with many excellent coaches, but it is the students
that have made our success possible. At BJHS, we have had sixteen event
state champions including three all time record setting performances.
Our teams have won ten state trophies including three championships,
four runner-up finishes, and three fourth place finishes. I have had the
honor of handing 66 of our boys state medals and 87 of our girls state
medals. 170 student-athletes have qualified for the state finals in
track and field over the last seven seasons. The boys cross country team
also enjoyed a fourth place finish in the state finals in 2006.
I would like to thank all of the
parents for the time, effort, and support that many of you have given
the program and me over the last seven years. I hope that the support
continues for the new staff, whoever they are. Leaving a place like
District 87 is never easy. I would like to thank the staff, board, and
administration for the many educational and coaching opportunities that
I have been granted over the last seven years. I’ll still keep in touch.
Don’t be surprised to hear me cheering from the infield at some of the
meets next season and beyond.
Go Knights!
Coach E.J. Brady
Parents: Thank you again for all of the dedication you show toward
the Bloomington Track and Field program. Please understand that it does
not go unnoticed by the coaches and other fans!

I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to
the BJHS Track and Field Program. We have a few additions to our
coaching staff this season, and are looking forward to another
successful year.
Mr. E.J. Brady will be the throws coach and head coach again this
season. Coach Brady has coached Track and Field at BJHS since 2002. He
is certified by ASEP and the IHSA. He is also the co-head coach of the
BJHS Cross Country Team and coaches girl’s basketball at BHS. Coach
Brady lives in Maroa with his wife, Amanda and son Max. Mr. Jeremy
Mosier will be our sprints coach this season. Coach Mosier was a college
and high school athlete for football, wrestling and track. Mr. Mosier
competed in the sprints in college at Millikin University in Decatur,
Illinois. During the 2007 season coach Mosier was the boys’ head track
coach at Porta High School. During that time the program did a complete
180 by either finishing near the top or winning all dual meets they
participated in. Coach Mosier is also the head wrestling coach for BJHS,
and looks to bring the excitement and success of that program into Track
and Field this spring. Mrs. Jaye Finerd will be our distance coach this
season. Coach Finerd recently moved to Bloomington from Naperville,
where she has been the last ten years. She received her Bachelor’s
degree in Sociology from North Central College in Naperville, where she
was also a three sport athlete (volleyball, basketball, and track and
field). Coach Finerd was a Heptathelete at North Central, which meant
she competed in seven different track and field events. Coach Finerd has
also volunteered at North Central College and Plainfield South High
School for their track programs while she was earning her Master’s in
Sociology from Aurora University. Most recently, Coach Finerd was the
Track and Field coach at Aux Sable Middle School in Plainfield. Coach
Finerd is a social worker for the Argenta-Oreana and Deland-Weldon
School Districts, and looks forward to the exciting season ahead of her
here at BJHS.
First of all, I would like to pass on the same information that was
given to your child today. The team is open to any sixth through eighth
grade student with a current physical. Students must also have an
insurance waiver on file in the main office. Once a student has these
documents on file, they will be given a gold slip from the office,
clearing them to participate in track and field. Students must turn in
the gold slip and the parent transportation form to Coach Brady on or
before March 11th, 2008. To avoid the rush, it is recommended that the
students complete this process as soon as possible.
Quite simply, we are made up of 4 teams. We have a 6th/7th grade team
and an 8th grade team for boys and for girls. All teams run the same
meets and practices. The 8th graders compete against only 8th graders in
most instances.
In the past, we have had well over 100 team members. There is usually a
no-cut policy for the track and field program. However, cuts may be made
to make sure the environment is safe and enjoyable for the athletes.
Students tend to cut themselves with poor grades and bad behavior.
Please remind your child that they are choosing to be a representative
of our school and community and that they should act as such at all
times. For the safety and consideration of all athletes, students with
behavior problems will be dismissed from the program.
Practices will be held from 3-4:45 beginning on Wednesday, March 12th,
2008. Please be prompt in picking up your child after practice. All of
our coaches have responsibilities outside of Track and Field. Please set
up car pools if you cannot pick your child up by 4:45. Your child will
be waiting for you at the south bus doors for the first week or so. When
we are practicing at the track, students will not be allowed to come
back to the school for any reason, so please pick them up at the
entrance to the track on Colton Avenue. If the coaching staff is
continually waiting for a student to be picked up, they will be
dismissed from the program.
The meet schedule is complete. A meet schedule is contained in this
packet and is available on the website at
http://www.district87.org/staff/bradye. . All dates and times on the
practice and meet schedules are subject to change.
Hopefully this packet of information answers any questions you may have.
If a question arises, please don’t hesitate to contact Coach Brady at
(309)827-0086 or at bradye@district87.org.
GO Knights!!!!!
