Our First Web Site!

Step I — Set up an e-mail account with yahoo.

1. Log into yahoo
2. Click on the e-mail icon
3. Click on "sign me up"
4. Fill in all the info
5. Write down your log in and password

Step II — Set up your directories

1. Open your "first" folder on the desktop
2. Make a new folder and call it myweb Notice that there is no punctuation or capital letters in this name. This is important!
3. Open myweb and make another folder inside it. Call it images. This is where your pictures will be kept.

Step III — Design your home page. You need to make buttons for at least 3 links. One link (button) should say "projects" Make sure you have a good dominant element, graphic elements, etc.

1. Open photoshop
2. Go to File, then New
3. Make the width 640 PIXELS and the height 480 PIXELS
4. Make sure the resolution is 72 dpi.
5. The mode should be RGB
6. Save the file as "layers home.psd"
7. Subsequent photoshop files will need to be named correctly also. (An example would be mydog.jpg)

Step IV — Making your web site

1. Open adobe pagemill
2. Insert your home.jpg file into the page
3. Save the file as home.html
4. Create links to other pages
5. Save and name each html file correctly
6. Make sure all of you links work
7. Upload all files and directory (folders) onto your geocites account
8. Make sure the stupid thing works and fix it if it doesn’t

 

 

Step V — Grading

9. Your home page will be graded separately using the following criteria for a total of 24 points (3 pts each):

• Good dominant element
• Flow
• Typography
• Use of graphic elements
• Originality
• Viewer impact
• Commitment
• Skill

1. You will get a separate grade for correctly organizing you myweb folder. (5 points each)

• File and folder names correct
• Formats correct
• Does it work on the internet
