Page Design

InDesign is a page-layout application. Unlike illustrator or photoshop, it can easily handle multi-page documents like magazines and books. To learn InDesign we will assemble a short booklet called "The Grasshopper" together in class. Then it's your turn. Use the directions and examples below to create your own booklet.

For this assignment you will create a 12 page booklet. The purpose is to indroduce you to a common type of graphic print design used in books, newspapers and magazines. The following are the requirements for your booklet.

Create a new folder in your IN DESIGN folder and call it “my book”
Search clipart.com for photos, textures and clipart
Find a story or an article that is going to fill your book. Here’s a couple of good sources http://www.classicreader.com/browse/6/ http://www.bedtime.com/ Copy and paste your text into Microsoft word (in your applications folder) and save it (in your “my book” folder as a DOC file.
Create a new file in InDesign. Make the page size LETTER HALF and the margins .25 in.
Make a total of 12 pages. Pages 1 and 12 will be the front cover and back cover.
The design from page to page should be cohesive. This means that the pages should look like they belong together.
