Title: Personal Portfolio Splash Screen

Who is Mr / Ms__________________________________?

Order of Operations:

Step 1: Take a photo of yourself (using a webcam, digital camera, or a scanned copy) and save it to your computer in JPG format.

Step 2. Open the Photoshop application

Step 3. Resize their picture so that it is no larger than 480 pixels in height.

Step 4. Use the pen tool to extrapolate the image of yourself from the background. (Copy or Cut)

Step 5. Open up a new document using the dimensions of 640 pixels by 480 pixels and then ÒPasteÓ your image into the new document.

Step 6: Acquire the Òchurchinterior.jpgÓ file.

Open the file in Photoshop.

Step 7: Use the menu commands of ÒSelect / AllÓ on the churchinterior.jpg image. You can then go to ÒEdit / CopyÓ or use the appropriate keyboard commands, right mouse click, or whatever, to acquire the image.

Step 8. Return to your new document (the one with your knocked out image in it) and create a new layer (using either the menu commands or the toolbar command, keyboard shortcuts, or however you prefer to do it).

Step 9: Grab the new layer and drag it underneath the image of yourself. You will then use the ÒPasteÓ option to apply the Òchurchinterior.jpgÓ image into the new layer.

Step 10: This is a good time to familiarize yourself with Layer Properties and the naming of layers, for better organization purposes.

Step 11: Use the curve function (Image / Adjustments / Curves) from the menu bar to adjust the ÒMy PhotoÓ layer to darken the image (applying multiple points). Two points will be used.

Step 12: After darkening your photo, you are then to copy your photo to another layer either by dragging the ÒMy PhotoÓ layer to the icon (on the Layers Palette) labeled ÒCreate New LayerÓ or by using the ÒDuplicate LayerÓ command either on the menu or by selecting it underneath the Layers Palette options.

Step 13: Rename this new layer as ÒMy Photo BlurÓ

Step 14: Use the ÒRadial BlurÓ (Filter / Blur / Radial Blur) command under the ÒFilterÓ menu item to blur the ÒMy Photo BlurÓ layer.  In the Radial Blur dialogue box, the settings are as follows:

            Blur Method: Zoom

            Quality: Good

            Blur Center: I left these at the default setting

            Amount: 63

Step 15: Create a new layer, dragging it above all the other layers on the Layers palette. This new layer will be labeled ÒCopper OverlayÓ

Step 16: On this new layer, select the gradient tool (from the tool bar). Using the drop down box on the menu, select the gradient that is titled ÒCopperÓ and draw a semi vertical line from the top to the bottom. This will create a copper gradient fill.

Step 17: Choose ÒDarkenÓ for this layer under its blend options (on the Layers pallete).

Step 18: Reselect the layer ÒMy PhotoÓ and click on the ÒAdd a layer styleÓ button at the bottom of the Layer Palette.

Step 19: Enable the ÒStrokeÓ option and change the stroke size to Ò2,Ó change the Fill Type to ÒGradientÓ and also check the ÒReverseÓ box. The ÒBlend ModeÓ for this gradient should also be set to ÒDarkenÓ if it isnÕt so already.

Step 20: Now select ÒViewÓ and then ÒRulersÓ from the menu. This will bring up the rulers that run alongside the document.

Step 21: Now, when this document was initially created, there should be a default layer called ÒBackgroundÓ still in place. Select this background layer and then create a new ÒguideÓ by clicking on the vertical ruler (anywhere in the white) and then dragging it to the center of the Background Layer. This should snap into place when the guide crosses the general vicinity of the layer center.

Step 22: Using the ÒTypeÓ tool, create the text, using the words ÒWho Is (insert name here) Ò. When the type tool is used, by default it will create a new layer to accommodate the text.

Step 23: Now, after you have completed the creation of your text, drag it closer to the vertical guide. This layer will snap to the vertical guide just like the vertical guide snapped to the background layer. Only, the text can snap to it from either side or the center.

Step 24: Duplicate this layer, renaming it to include the word ÒBlurÓ.

Step 25: Select the ÒWho is_____ blurÓ layer and apply the following filter effect: Filter / Blur / Motion Blur. The motion blur settings should include an angle of Ò0¼Ó with a distance of Ò200Ó

Step 26: The original text layer will be subject to a layer effect called ÒDrop ShadowÓ. This drop shadow should be left at the default setting except for these items.

            Angle = 180 (degrees)

            Distance = 12

Step 27: Finally, the following Filter effect is to be applied to the ÒChurchÓ layer: Filter / Artistic / Watercolor. I set the Brush Detail at 14 and dropped the Shadow Intensity to 1.

Step 28. Save this file as a Photoshop document on the computer. Also, publish these images to your website. The final rendering will be saved in a new folder that you will label ÒWho am I PowerpointÓ  as a .JPG file called ÒSplash Screen.jpgÓ.
