Curriculum Overview

Throughout the year, students will read novels such as The Outsiders, The Giver, Wringer, and a few others as determined by student ability and interest as well as time.  A large portion of the reading curriculum is designated to the Boys Town F.A.M.E. reading program (Adventures) which focuses primarily on increasing fluency and vocabulary skills. 

Additionally, students will work on 6 major reading strategies and various reading skills.  The 6 reading strategies including making predictions, creating questions, summarizing main ideas, building inferences, utilizing imagery to further comprehension, and making connections to personal situations.  Additionally, students will develop a variety of reading skills such as using context clues, identifying the parts of a story, etc.
