Writing

• Writes clear, complete sentences

• writes to the end of the line (uses return sweep)

• Writes a 5 sentence paragraph with a focus sentence, 3 detail sentences, and a wrap-up sentence

Handwriting

• D'Nealian Manuscript only (no cursive)

• Start all letters at the top and pull down. Match letters to the lines on the paper.

• Begins late October

• 8 or more words each week (some students may have challenge words)

• Tests on Fridays

• Number sense: odd/even, place value

• Patterning

• counting: by 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s to 100

• Addition: sums to 12

• Subtraction: differences from 12

• Problem solving and logic skills

• Money: penny, nickel, dime, quarter and dollar (name and value); add mixed sets to 50 cents.
