Conferences

Following first quarter, we will hold fall parent-teacher conferences. This year the official fall conference date is Friday, October 28, 2011. I will have evening conferences throughout this week. You will sign up for a conference time during our Orientation Night on Tuesday, August 30. We request that only one meeting be held for a child with both parents in attendance. Separate meetings for one child will not be scheduled. Therefore, parents who do not live together are asked to work with each other to find a common time before scheduling. At this conference, I will share my observations of your child's skills and progress during the first nine weeks of third grade. We can discuss any questions or concerns you may have as well. I am always interested in hearing insights from parents. We are a team -- you, your child, and me -- and must work together for the best educational experience!

Student-led ConferencesAll third grade students will keep an individualized portfolio during the school year to keep track of their personal academic growth. The portfolio will include samples of reading, writing, spelling, and math activities. In the fall, students and parents will create an action plan to reach the state standards for first semester. During the year, the students will compare their samples and be able to identify their strengths, progress, and areas where they continue to need improvement.In February, students will invite their parents to school to share their portfolios. During this time, students will be in charge of their portfolios and running the conference. Students will share their growth and show how they are reaching the state standards. The students will also revise their action plans for the second half of the year with the guidance of their parents on this day. Friday, February 10, 2012 At the end of the year,
we will have a portfolio-sharing picnic to celebrate their successful year.
Students will invite their parents to come during our regular lunch and have
a working lunch. During this time, the students will again share their
portfolios and the growth they have made during the school year. Students
will then be allowed to take their portfolios home. |
