IPS Curriculum
Scientific Method, metrics, and measurement will be studied first hour. Students will participate in several activities and labs. They will design and present experiments. They will get to see a NASCAR video, and they will be graphing and calculating throughout the year.

During second quarter, students will study force and motion and will learn about Isaac Newton. Students will also have a unit on simple and compound machines. There will be a pulley lab, lever lab, and a power lab. Electricity and magnetism will be briefly covered.
Third quarter, students will study lab equipment and safety. Chemistry will be covered as well. Specifically, students will learn about matter and density. They will engage in flame tests and chemical pursuit. Heat will also be covered.

Chemical reactions will be covered fourth quarter. Students will have labs on synthesis, decomposition, single replacement, and double replacement. They will also study mixtures and have a filtration lab. They will have other labs on distillation, chromatography, solutions, neutralization, and conductivity. They will further do a "Drinkable" soda lab.

Students will write throughout the year as part of BHS's dedication to Writing Across the Curriculum. There will also be a technology project to enhance computer skills.
